This small tribute to Matthew Carter, the legendary British type designer, served as a way to experiment with the layout that incorporated text, image, and showcased various type designs in a comprehensive way. The choice to use illustration over photographs was made as a way of further differentiating two kinds of images (crisp, black and white type samples and playful, soft drawings of type inspiration) as not to overwhelm the reader.

All illustrations are original. The cover image was based on Matthew Carter's portrait shot by Steve Schofield for Esquire magazine.
